Heart & Soul. BJD
BJDs – or Ball Jointed Dolls – are not something new; articulated doll bodies actually go back hundreds of years. However, the materials that were formerly available greatly limited what could be done with this technique and it fell almost completely out of use. It was taken up again a few years ago by Japanese and Korean artists, who, using new materials such as high-quality resins, began creating sophisticated ball jointed dolls often inspired by anime drawing. These BJDs were an immediate success and continue to be hugely popular with collectors in Japan and Korea. New materials allow for exceptionally fine detailing and articulation, making these dolls more mobile and life-like than was ever before possible.
At Heart and Soul we are very excited by the challenges and opportunities presented by these new BJDs. Inspired by the high standard of craftsmanship, we have adapted the new technique to our own traditions of style and quality.
Our KiezKinder BJDs are made of superior quality moulded resins. With the aid of a magnifying glass, craftsmen hand-paint the features and other details and apply body blushing by airbrush. Each KiezKinder BJD has 17 or 19 finely crafted points of articulation. All are highly customizable. The top of the head (with or without wig) can be removed and replaced magnetically, the eyes are easily taken out and exchanged. The wigs are made of finest synthetic mohair and mostly hand-knotted. All our BJDs have finest hand-blown glass eyes from Lauscha, Germany.
Dress them in their finely detailed garments and set them up in life-like poses. KiezKinder have an attitude that radiates a unique and powerful presence. We’re sure you will be just as enthusiastic about our new BJDs as we are.
